2pc. Early 1900's Wedding Dress and Blouse "The Opera" Edwardian Victorian Antique Lawn Tea Wedding Dress True Vintage. Titanic/Downtown Abbey look!
Size: XS
Era: 1901-1919 (Edwardian)
Material: Cotton Blends
Type: Dresses
Vintage Type: True Vintage
Country of Manufacture: Unknown
Color: Ivories
Shade: Ivory
The dress has lots of very beautiful heavily embroidered flowers, details eyelet, lace and dots on top and bottom. See thru light weight batiste cotton material. It's a nice display/decor piece, study piece or repair to wear for a Titanic Tea Party or reenactment. It's an ivory color with mother of pearl buttons and snaps. One button is missing on the blouse. There are few light stains on the blouse and dress. also it's torn a bit on the bottom rear about two inches that needs repair would be easy for a seamstress to repair. please view pics. Looks like there had been some repairs on one sleeve under the arm. It has an antique smell. But over all it's in good condition considering it's 100 years old. I just purchased this dress off a gentleman from ebay who got it from a old century farm auction. I got it to wear for my daughters Titanic birthday party however the dress was too small in the waist. I am a small size 4 so I am guessing this is a size 2 or smaller. XXS adult, XS teen or Tall youth/child
*** The little piece of paper was in the box with the wedding dress (Frances Saladin Homan Wedding Dress 12-25-1918) Two tags: "The Opera" & 36.***

email from seller says:
Last week I purchased a wedding dress from ebay that had the name of your ancestor "Frances Saladin Homan" Wedding Dress Date 12/25/1918. the guy I purchased it from said he bought it from an auction at a large old farm house in Norwalk, Ohio which I believe was the house Frances lived in.
I bought it to wear to my daughters museum trip to the Titanic exhibit, However it was too tight in the waist, so I relisted it on ebay to recoup my money. I still have the dress and someone bid on it late last night for $75.00 but they haven't paid yet. I was curious today to do a research on the name and print off info to give it to the buyer because I like to learn the history of things I get on ebay. that's when I came across your genealogy report on your website and found her Frances name listed. Leslie her husband was a buggle boy in WWI and drafted in WWII. I thought that was kind of interesting. They also owned Norwalk, OH Homan Appliance Co 1939. and in 1920 Leslie worked as a Brakeman on Steam Railroad #640. I thought it was kinda cool they got married on Christmas day in 1918 which is not on the online records so this is a missing link that Ancestry.com does not have. - Frances Abygail Saladin (1895 - 1990)

- summary from another researcher:
Brief History of Mrs. Frances A. (Saladin) Homan 1895-1990
On August 9 1895, a Bernard and Mary Saladin gave birth to their baby girl Miss Frances Abby Saladin in Norwalk, Ohio. She was the younger of two older brothers William and Fred. Bernard parents were from Germany and at the time of Frances birth, he was a Barber in a local barber shop while Mary was a housewife taking care of their two sons where both attending elementary school.
By 1910 Miss Frances was 14 years old and helping her mother at home. Her father was working on the Railroad as a Brakeman. Her 22-year-old brother William was working as a Civil Engineer and Their 17-year-old cousin Frank, who had move in with them, was working as a laborer. Sometime between 1910 and 1918 a young Miss Frances Saladin meet a Mr. Leslie Homan and fell in love. She married him on Christmas day 1918 at the age of 22. She must have been a small petite young woman. I am sure she was excited about getting her beautiful grand “Opera” wedding Dress and so proud of her husband who was serving in WWI at the time of their wedding.
Leslie’s father was a Laborer and their family ran a small farm at home in which he and his brother helped take care of. Leslie must have grown up with a love for music and on May 28 1917 during WWI, he enlisted in the Army National Guard with the following music related job details: Co G 5 Infantry ONG (Co G 145 Infantry) to Discharge Bugler 1 July 1918; Musician, third class 4 on July 1918; Band Corporal 2 Aug 1918. Meuse-Argonne; Ypres-Lys; Defensive Sector. American Expeditionary Forces 15 June 1918 to 30 March 1919. In April 1919, he received an honorable discharge.
By 1920, Frances and Leslie were living in an apartment Toledo Ward 16 in Lucas, OH.  Frances husband followed her father’s example working as a Brakeman on the Rail Road # 640 while Frances was a homemaker. I suspect that Frances father may have helped get her husband the job.
By 1930 Frances and Leslie where living in Norwalk, OH and had three daughters, Jane 9, Margaret 7 and betty 2. Frances was a stay at home mom while Leslie started his own business as a sign painter, but in 1939 he started another  company “Norwalk, OH  Homan Appliance Co 1939”  In 1940 Frances and her family lived at 55 N Pleasant St in Norwalk, OH and Leslie was still self employed for his Retail store “Homan Appliance.” In 1942, he signed the US WWII Draft Registration card but was never drafted.
Sadly on March 27 1953 at age 57 the well-known businessman and charter member of the Norwalk post of the American Legion died Thursday at the veterans hospital in Cleveland, OH where he had been a patient for three months. Mr. Homan operated the Homan appliance company, which was the outgrowth of a sign and painting business he founded in 1921. Mr. Homan was a veteran of WWI having served with the Co G 145th Infantry of the 37 Division prior to founding his business here he worked as a brakeman with the W. & L. E. Railroad. Mr. Homan was a member of the first Methodist church, and the Moose Lodge, Masonic bodies and American Legion of which he wish the post commander and manager of the organizations baseball team since the 1930’s . As an accomplished bugler, he was a member of the Knights Templar band and various community bands. Surviving are his three daughters Mrs. Wilbert Schaffer and Mrs. Lawrence Hilson, and Mrs. Merle McConkey, and three grand children.  Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday in Kubsch Funeral Home. The rev. RR Dluterich officiating. Burial is to be in Woodlawn Cemetery with the American Legion in charge of the graveside rites.
In 1958, Mrs. Frances Homan still lived at 55 N Pleasant but owned her own Glass Company called “Homan Glass Co at 52 Jefferson. In 1960, her daughter Mrs. Margaret M Hilson took over the company and they moved next door to 50 Jefferson while Mrs. Frances remained at 55 N Pleasant.  In the year 1964 they gave their congrats to the graduating class of Norwalk, OH High School signed the year book, "HOMAN GLASS CO. and MARGARET'S GIFT SHOP 50 Jefferson Phone 668-2272 Congrats!"

On September 4 1990 at 8:15pm Frances A. Homan died in her home in Norwalk, OH, At the ripe old age of 95 on. She lived a full life as a wife, mother and a successful businessperson and Supervisor / proprietor of family owned companies in the industry of Household appliances, Glass, TV, and radio stores
On 24 Dec 1917 when Frances Abygail was 22, she married Leslie Quay HOMAN. Born on 2 Jun 1895 in Dalton, Wayne, Ohio, USA. Leslie Quay died in Norwalk, Huron, Ohio, USA, on 25 Mar 1953; he was 57.
