RESEARCH NOTES for WILLIAM HARRIS
This is such a common name, so determining ancestry is quite difficult - hundreds of baptisms in Gloucester between 1720 and 1740.
- a Willi Harris christened 07 Oct 1733 Bourton on the Water, Gloucester, son of Moses Harris & Hanah - perhaps this William?. Other children of Moses Harris and Hanah: Hannah Harris 23 Jan 1731 Bourton on the Water. No marriage of Moses and Hanah in this location, but found Moses marrying a Susanna Hains on 24 Dec 1710 in Bourton On the Water, Gloucester (IGI batch A178078, also M035351) - they had 5 chilren between 1717 and 1728 in Bourton on the Water (why the gap between 1710 and 1717 - lived elsewhere first?). Did Sasannah die and then Moses remarried to Hannah (married elsewhere)?
- A William Jackson Harris bapt 28 Sep 1733 Bourton on the Hill, Gloucester, son of Thomas Harris, batch C02716-2 [Bourton on the Hill is very close to Moreton in Marsh, about 10? miles north of Bourton on the Water]
- A William Harris baptised 2 Jun 1734 in Guiting Power, Gloucester, but died as a child on 27 Apr 1741 - son of Rich. and Ann Harris - batch C02527-1
- There was a William Harries married 20 Oct 1749 in Bourton On The Water to a Eliz. Tombs - perhaps a first marriage for this William (depending on his age, although if born in 1733 he was probably too young), or a different William, perhaps a cousin?
- There is a Thomas Harris married to a Mary Dowler in Bourton On the Water, Gloucester on 27 Oct 1754 (from IGI individual submission batch 7024305) - could be a brother or cousin?
- There was a Will Harris baptised 10 Feb 1725 in Lower Swell, Gloucester (IGI Batch C030022), son of Anthony Harris (mother not listed). An Anthony Harris baptised there on 14 Oct 1685, son of Solomon Harris and Hanah.
On 7 Oct 1754 when William was 24, he married Grace THORNILL in Bourton On The Water, Gloucester, England. Born ca 1730 in Gloucester, England.

RESEARCH NOTES for GRACE THORNILL
- can’t find any baptism records in IGI for Grace Thornill in all of England - some in Derby, others in Yorkshire, but none the right age - likely coverage is incomplete. There is, however, a baptism for a Grace Thorndel:
"England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975"
name: Grace Thorndel
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 03 Jun 1734
baptism/christening place: GUITING POWER,GLOUCESTER,ENGLAND
father's name: Will. Thorndel
mother's name: Eliz.
indexing project (batch) number: C02527-1
system origin: England-ODM
source film number: 394495 [no image]

- on the image of the parish marriage register, she is listed once clearly as Grace Thornill, but in the signature area, the last name is written in a different hand and part of it has been overwritten unclearly in a thicker fuzzier pen. I expect the first version said Thornill (as the dot over a probable i and the 2 l’s are clear), with modifications looking perhaps like Thorndell (looks like a letter was inserted that extends as high as the l’s)? There is also a loop written over the “nd”, for reasons unknown.

- Made contact with a Claire on genesreunited who found a lineage on familysearch Pedigree Resouce File online (on CD#1), stating that Grace’s last name was Thorndell (many variants to this last name in records) - baptised 3 Jun 1734 in Lower Guiting, Gloucesster, daughter of William Thorndell and Elizabeth Greening. Lineage goes back further in Lower Guiting 2 more generations to Wiliiam Thorndell and Ann, and before that William Thorndell and Elizabeth. Ancestral File entry goes further back to Richard and his father Edward in Winchcombe, Gloucester. [not yet researched - see maps and notes on locations. Lower Slaughter and Bourton on the Water are about 2 miles apart, and Guiting Power is quite close - 6 miles? - to the NW]
