- 1796: Marriage of Thomas Harris of the Parish of Lower Slaughter, a Bachelor, and Mary Smith of this Parish [Northleach, Gloucestershire, England], spinster, were married in this Church by Licence with Consent of ----- this Eleventh Day of July in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Six by me Thos Wilkinson Vicar. This marriage was solemnized between us Thomas Harris, Mary Smith in the Presence of Jane Hall, Mary Butter(?) [or Prutter (?) or Butler (?)]

RESEARCH NOTES:
- 5 Thos Harris baptised in Bourton On The Water, Gloucester between 1730 - 1809 - possible baptism for this Thomas on 11 Oct 1772, son of William Harris and Grace. (IGI batch C035351). Note that this batch has 77 Harris baptisms listed between 1686-1812 - lots of potential ancestors and relatives!
- couldn’t find marriage record for Thos Harris and Mary in Bourton On The Water, Gloucester, England in IGI Batch M035351 [is this batch complete?] so probably married elsewhere (Mary’s home town?)
- 22 baptisms in Bourton On The Water, Gloucester, IGI Batch C035351 (1605-1812) for parents Thos Harris and Mary, ranging in dates between 1754 - 1812, obviously more that 1 generation. I made an assumption on rough grouping around 1799 as to which ones belonged to this family - only a guess.
- May be other children after 1812 - perhaps Ann Harris, baptised 6 Mar 1814 Lower Slaughter Gloucester (Batch 7217820) and Sarah Harris, 10 Aug 1817, Bourton On The Water (Batch 7236210)
- Thomas and Mary Harris: There was a Thos. Harris married in Chadlington in 1776 and a baptism of a Sarah to a Thomas and Mary Harris on the document from Mr. Xu, but there does not appear to be any way to connect. The mostly likely source of further info.is a copy of their marriage entry but from your research it looks unlikely that we will find that at Lower Slaughter or BOTW generally. I have tried to find where Mary was born and found the family on the 1841 census ( Thos. 65 carpenter, Mary 60, Ann(e) 20 & Joseph 15) but no place of birth. In 1851 that does record place of birth Mary was not there, Thomas was still living in L.S. now at Slaughter Hill Farm, but on his own as a widow with his daughter Anne as his housekeeper. This is rather a long way to say that I failed. Frustrated I looked for her death, there were many Mary Harris deaths between 1841 and 51, I only covered six of the years until I found a good candidate in the Jan.Mar 1850 section, volume 11 page 313 at Northleach which was the registration center for the area after 1837. I have not tried for a certificate as I doubted if it would give any clues to her place of birth.
- the closest marriage of a Thomas Harris to a Mary occured in Northleach, very close by. The certificate of the parish record of marriage confirmed tha this Thomas Harris was of the Parish of Lower Slaughter - so am fairly certain this is the correct couple - unfortunately her last name was Smith!
On 11 Jul 1796 when Thomas was 24, he married Mary SMITH in Northleach, Gloucestershire, England. Born ca 1775 in England. Mary died in Lower Slaughter, Gloucester, England, on 7 Sep 1850; she was 75.

- 1850: death certificate of Mary Harris, died 7 Sep 1850, in Lower Slaughter (Bourton-on-th-Water sub-district, Stow on the Wold Registration District, Counties of Gloucester and Worcester, England), at age 75 years, from infirmities of age, certified, wife of Thomas Harris carpenter, informant X the mark of Hannah Wattson nurse in attendance Lower Slaughter, registered 9 Sep 1850, William Wells Registrar.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- the death certificate for Mary Harris I sent for with some confidence (Jan.Mar 1850 section, volume 11 page 313 at Northleach which was the registration center for the area after 1837) turned out to be misplaced. This lady died at Bibury ( now another tourist spot) about ten miles away at the not unimpressive age for the time of 93, widow of William Harris a groom. I have looked again and failed to find her, possibly because she died elsewhere (unlikely), Northleach had not then become the registration center or most likely I was defeated by the websight I used which only gave one page to look at for each quarter, and where the Mary Harris entries were at the start or end of the page some were not available.
- On freebmd.org, I found many deaths for Mary Harris between 1841-1851 in GLS. 3 were in Northleach, but only 1 was in Stow On The Wold - the district Stow on Wold is an alternative name for Stow on the Wold and it spans the boundaries of the counties of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire (contains Bourton On The Water, Lower Slaughter and Upper Slaughter between 1837 and 1937):
