From other researchers:
- Story shared by Stephen Schneider via ancestry image:
“Ann told me her great great grandpa Jesse Henson Sr had to hide out in the bluffs. He was Indian, and a land owner. Many of the white people who had lost much were angered by this and sought to kill him. One white girl who had probably been the one to warn Jesse of those after him knew where he was hiding and would sneak him food to survive. Finally those days past and he was able to come out of hiding. The white girl who had helped Jesse was Phoebe Fraley. She later became Jesse Henson Sr’s wife” - Source Anna Mae Easter Snyder, story passed down to her by her mother Elsie Hampton Easter who was the the great granddaughter of Jesse Sr & Phoebe Henson.

- “Regarding the cemetery grave location on Jesse and Phoebe: I believe Jesse wanted to be buried with his parents at Whitehouse. Several of Phoebe's children are in Sunset Cemetery. That may have been her wish since I do not find a reason why she would have chosen Whitehouse other than Jesse was there. And, it could be that the children liked Sunset better since it was near home. Solomon and Jesse, Jr. lived next to each other in 1900 in the Winslow Township. That was created from Mountain Township as the area became more populated.
Bef 1849 when Jesse was 23, he married Phoebe FRALEY , daughter of Reuben FRALEY & Mary Polly FLANNERY. Born on 15 Feb 1828 in Kentucky, USA. Phoebe died in Arkansas, USA, on 20 Sep 1906; she was 78. Buried in 1906 in Sunset Cemetery, Winslow, Washington, Arkansas, USA.

- 1906 obituary transcription from Washington County Review, Sept 27, 1906 (Notice from Sunset)
“Death has visited our vicinity and taken one of the noblest mothers and best neighbors, Mrs Febia [sic] Henson, on the evening of Sept 20th. Aunt Febia, as she was called by all, was 86 years of age. She was the mother of 14 children, all living but one. There are a few others here who are very old and feeble who will soon have the same call. But few of the noble hearted ones who settle first in Washington county are left. Young people let us look back over the history of the noble ones and think what they have done for us and their country, allow me to congratulate them.”

- 1937 listed on son Joseph’s SS application as mother Phoebe Frailey and father Jesse Henson.

From other researchers:
- Pheobe shows in 1850 as 19 years of age [meaning she was born about 1831]; and her death notice showed her to be 86 [meaning she was born in 1820 - likely a mistake in the obit]. Therefore, she was born in 1830 or 1831 and not in 1828. This also adds proof to the 1840 Census that shows a female age 5 to 9 years as mentioned earlier. I believe that Pheobe was the daughter to Reuben and sister to Samuel. in addition, she named several of her sons with first names that matched Reuben's brothers. First born son she named William. I am attaching her to Reuben.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- last name listed as Frayley, Frailey, Fraley, Friley ...;
first name spellings vary: Phoebe, Phebe, Pheba, Pheby, even Feba
- may have been born in Arkansas or Kentucky - probably KY
- may have been buried Sunset Cem, Sunset, Washington, Arkansas - listed as birth location (!) in IGI (individual)

- Sources vary as to number of children: IGI lists 15 children including 3 not listed in census:
Charles E Henson, born 22 Feb 1858, AR
Pheba Henson, born 1868, AR
Lewis Henson, born 19 Feb 1864, AR
and doesn’t list 1 that was in the census:
Henry Henson, abt 1865 AR

- can’t find in 1880 census
- can’t find in 1900 census

- The Claesen Family Tree by nicoleclaesen on ancestry claims that Phoebe is the daughter of Reuben Fraley (1783-1870) and Mary Polly Flannery (1792-1840) and the granddaughter of Frederick Fraley (1725-1792) and Chloe D Boone (1745-1823) - although another tree claims that Boone is a mistake. I’m also concerned about the large age gap between Reuben and Frederick. A different tree lists other children for Reuben and Mary Polly, but not Phoebe.

- The area that the family resided was in the Shepherd Township of Crawford County. That is next to Winslow in Washington County. It may be that [Phoebe] was still on the same farm in 1900 as in 1880, since they buried her in Sunset Cemetery. As the crow flies, Hazel Valley, Whitehouse, Arnett and Winslow are very close. That explains why over the decades that families inter married from those locations.

As of summer 2016, I have 3 Shockley individuals in this tree:
-- Thomas Shockley (1822? - >1888) who married Mary Elizabeth Henson (1826 KY - >1888 AR) d/o Wm & Lavina Osburn
- Virginia Ann Shockley (abt 1844 MO-1881? OK?) who married Jonathan Riley Blevins (1839 KY - 1893 OK) sp. Wiley Blevins and Nancy Jane Osburn.
- John Shockley, father of Virginia, signed consent for her daughter’s marriage in 1860 in Washington AR.

One proposed theory is that John and Thomas Shockley were one and the same person. I think they are at least related, as we know the families were already connected through the Osburns:
- Lavinia Osburn Henson (1805-1895 - mother of Thomas Shockley’s wife Mary Elizabeth Henson)
- Nancy Jane Osburn Blevins (c1815->1880 - mother of Virginia “Jennie” Shockley’s husband Jonathan Riley Blevins)
Both Lavinia and Nancy Jane were sisters, daughters of Jesse Osburn and Elizabeth Sarah Lemaster.

From other researchers:
- “The White River Township in Washington County is on the southeasterly side. It borders the Valley Township of Madison County. The farms located in the Valley Twn. would be about 2 to four miles from Hazel Valley. Those living in the townships intermingled. They visited common markets located in Durham, Crosses, Delaney (now a spot in the road) as well as local doctors. At one time, a rail spur extended from Fayetteville to St. Paul in Madison County and along the White River. Timber was the main industry from the beginning until after WWI. The rail line was discontinued around the 1930's. Part of that line ran on the north side of my father's home place near Baldwin community which is now in the Fayetteville City Limits. The population in those old towns declined after the timber market failed due the railroad expansion terminating.

“Side Note: The were Shockleys in the area (Madison Co.) that pre-date Thomas and Mary. I suspect that they came into Washington Co for a short time and then moved after 1861. No record in Washington County of their children. Most Shockleys who married after Virginia were too young to be part of her siblings. The 1860 Census shows that the older Shockley children were born in Tennessee, while the younger, David and Bell were born in Mississippi or Missouri. Not sure about the census abbreviation. There is a David who appears in Sebastian Co and later in Oklahoma. Find-a-grave has a memorial for him; but I am not sure whether the data is correct.”

[NOTE: If he was just divorcing Rachel in early 1884, he couldn’t have married a different Rachel in 1870. We must be dealing with a couple of different Samuels here.]
[NOTE2: Rachel wasn’t the only guilty party. Samuel seems to have set up house with a Rebecca as early as 1870.]

RESEARCH NOTES
The findagrave memorial for Samuel Fraley who died in 1903 (?) has been removed or corrected - now reads 1909 as below, husband of Rebeccca. Is there more than 1 Samuel? If he remarried to a Rebecca, there are 3 different surnames listed for her (1 marriage in 1870, 2 listed in 1884), but the 1870 one matches census data. Are there 2 or 3 different Samuels that are getting confused.? Or perhaps this Samuel died before 1860 as he’s not listed in the census with family.?

Did he remarry to Rebecca Dickson or Dickerson?

On the same day and by the same Justice, Virginia Ann Shockley age 16, married John Blevins age 21. Virginia's parent, John Shockley, gave his written permission for her to marry.
I believe that John Shockley is John Thomas Shockley, husband to Mary E Henson.
Not a coincidence since this Justice would have been in the White River or Winslow area of Washington County. “ - their double marriage occurred on 9 Dec 1860
