- Last name previously entered as MEADE, corrected to COMPTON: “John Compton (Miller of Barford St. Martin, Wilts.) definately married a Mary Compton (maiden name) of Chittern, probably a distant cousin but have not yet ascertained this. The mention of Mary Meade is partly my fault as I found her in Tilshead with dates that seemed to fit but on further investigation realised she was not John's wife ... John died in 1885 in Barford St. Martin but did not leave a will. I believe Mary's parents could be a George and Elizabeth as these names were given to children of John and Mary who seem to have 'religiously' given their children close family names and I have seen these names mentioned in Chittern but need to see the Parish reigisters.
