RESEARCH:
- from http://erstarnews.com/about-us/ [Star News, Elk River MN USA]: “The newspaper was established in 1872 by the Arthur Newman Dare family. Three generations of Dares later — starting with Arthur and then Laurence Albee Dare and lastly Charles Fournier Dare — ECM Publishers purchased the paper in 1982.” - As our Arthur Newman Dare was born in Wales and died in Surrey England, and didn’t have a son Laurence that we know of, this is likely a different family. HOWEVER, our Arthur’s sister Elizabeth died in Elk River MN in 1889, so there is likely some kind of connection here.
- On the 1880 census Elizabeth is single, living with her brother Alfred b. Wales (occupation Miller) and his wife b. Vermont (Parents born Vermont) and children Elizabeth age 24 and Robert 18.
in another household we have Arthur N. Dare age 30 born N.Y. and his wife May S. Arthur's father was born in Wales and his mother was born in Vermont. They have a dau. Daphne age 4 months. My guess is that they will be the parents of Laurence.... I just found Laurence on the 1895 Minnesota Census living with his parents A.N. Dare and May with sisters Daphne and Susan. He was 10.
210. Ellen DARE (Ann Childeroy COMPTON8, Thomas7, Ann6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1). Born on 2 Mar 1809 in Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales, UK. Ellen died in Rhyd, Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales, on 17 Mar 1831; she was 22.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- sources vary on year of death: 1831 or 1830.
211. Agnes Jane DARE (Ann Childeroy COMPTON8, Thomas7, Ann6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1). Born on 15 Feb 1811 in Bridgend, Glamorgan, Wales, UK. Agnes Jane died in New Zealand.

- Agnes Jane Dare ... married William Thomas in 1840 in Newton Nottage [Wales].    Following the death of her husband and at the age of 70, Agnes Jane migrated to Australia with the daughter (Ann Charlotte I think, but will check that).  Her son, Arthur Compton Thomas, my great grandfather, was already in Victoria, but they disembarked in Sydney (New South Wales).  Ann was going to New Zealand to marry her fiancé, so presume Agnes went there with her rather than join her son and family ... 6 children listed.
On 18 Nov 1840 when Agnes Jane was 29, she married William THOMAS in Newton Nottage, Bridgend Reg Dist, Glamorgan, Wales. Born on 22 Feb 1812 in Newton Nottage, Glamorgan, Wales, UK. William died bef 1881; he was 68.

RESEARCH NOTES
- Historical note: Lady Alicia Lisle (or Lyle) was the last person to be beheaded in England for harbouring some of the Duke of Monmouth’s followers after thier defeat by James II, at Sedgemore in 1685. She was a woman in her 70’s and there was a great fuss made about her being tried - that it was not just. It [was] the notorious Judge Jeffries who condemned her. A good source for more details is the book “The Regicide’s Widow, Lady Alice Lisle and The Bloody Assize” by Antony Whitaker c2006. Charlotte’s aunt Charlotte Lisle (Newman) Compton is descended from this famous woman through her mother Joanna Whitaker.
Charlotte Alicia Lisle married David JONES. Born ca 1815.

RESEARCH:
- from http://erstarnews.com/about-us/ [Star News, Elk River MN USA]: “The newspaper was established in 1872 by the Arthur Newman Dare family. Three generations of Dares later — starting with Arthur and then Laurence Albee Dare and lastly Charles Fournier Dare — ECM Publishers purchased the paper in 1982.” - As our Arthur Newman Dare was born in Wales and died in Surrey England, and didn’t have a son Laurence that we know of, this is likely a different family or generation. HOWEVER, our Arthur’s sister Elizabeth died in Elk River MN in 1889, so there is likely some kind of connection here.
- On the 1880 census [Arthur’s sister] Elizabeth is single, living with her brother Alfred b. He was 10.
In 1857 when Arthur Newman was 32, he married Sarah Barbara CUNDELL. Born in 1835 in Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. Sarah Barbara died in Hove, Sussex, England, on 24 Mar 1927; she was 92.

- Died 24 Mar 1927, age 92, address = 27 Pembroke Crerscent, Hove, Sussex, England (from probabe calendar)
