- In 1910 John Dare was at Steam Bakery, John Street, Porthcawl. In May 1884 Mrs Brogden leased to Mrs Dare the house and shop. This was John Dare's first shop in John Street. He later moved to the other side of the street, now the YMCA premises. This block of John Streer was being completed. In 1894 J.T. Dare was not elected to the new Urban District Council (established after the old Local Board was abolished by the Local Government Act 1894. The first Council had continued to meet at the rear of John Dare's shop in John Street that had been used by the short-lived Local Board. But in Nov 1895 it moved to Ocean House in Dock Street (shop at jct of Hilsboro Place and Dock Street). Towards the ned of 1896 it was decided to rent a whole house which could be used as a board room and office, and in the middle of November Comley's house at 1 beeche Terrace, Station Hill (subsequently Strading's cycle shop) was rented and became the first council offices in addition to a board room.
