He was drowned in 1910 so we always heard about him.

RESEARCH NOTES
- according to daughter Sybil: Mum was born in 1893
- no death registrations available yet
- Mums Parents are buried there [Burwash] as well. They had 9 grandchildren. 7 are still alive. Joan and I wondered how the family were connected with Dowton. Think Auntie Nell [Compton] took us to see some distant relations there.

- Sybil Compton remembers her Uncle Bert, who was slightly deformed with a lump at the front and back of his head, ploughing with three horses (not an easy task as I've done it myself with two as a young lad). According to Syble: “Uncle Walter & Uncle Bert, neither of them got married”

- From another researcher: “Nancy [likely the niece of William and Ethel] described Albert as having a hump on his back but your information is that he had a deformed head. I wonder if some of the early deaths/deformities in some of the children were because of the marriage of possible cousins (John and Mary [his grandparents]) although cousin marriages were quite common. John and Mary's first born, Margaret, died at age 10 of 'inflamation of the brain' according to her death certificate.” “Albert wore special jackets with wide collars to hide his hump back.”

- Auntie Nell, Uncle Walter, Uncle Bert were buried at Wilton.
