- 2012: Had a lovely trip up to Moreton with my brother, Michael and his wife Carole with very hot weather most of the week. The second day we all went to a posh buffet in Willersey where some friends were leaving the area to live in Cambridge so held this buffet to say goodbye, probably about 40 people there. Next day we went to my grt. niece, Evie's 1st birthday party in the park at Cheltenham, glorious weather and young and old enjoyed the day and the toddlers etc. were very well behaved with about 6 picnic blankets laid together to make a huge play mat. My niece had made a huge teddy bear shaped cake and other mums had brought along various goodies. My niece, Janet and husband, Ben, along with grt. nephew Jack (4) and little Evie live in Winchcombe so not too far from my brother. My brother's son lives in Bristol with his wife and 2 boys. Whilst in Moreton we visited Hidcote and Kiftsgate gardens, beautiful.... I have 2 brothers and a sister and my other brother and my sister still live in Hampshire where I lived most of my life until we moved to Devon

- 2012: Brother-in-law Alan Compton visited Pat in October for several days and found that she was bearing up with her course of chemotherapy. This Thursday [December] she has the last session in the current course, she is very buoyant in spirit and has lost the tiredness that accompanies it.

- 2013 from her brother-in-law: Pat Compton died yesterday [19 Jul 2013] having struggled against ovarian cancer for over 2 years. She passed away peacefully in Barnstaple Hospice with her daughter Julie at her bedside.
She leaves:
Daughter Julie Danson and husband Gary, and their daughter Rebecca.
Son Richard Compton.
Pat was a great inspiration to all and through her dedicated lengthy investigations into the Compton family history opened up a world none of us were previously aware of.
She was too unwell to go to the Oak Apple Day ceremony and Lunch on 29th May 2013 [Great Wishford]
- 2013: Pat’s funeral was Friday 9th August in Barnstaple (crematorium) with a reception at RHS Rosemoor (one of the four Royal Horticultural Society gardens in England). A splendid location which Pat and my brother Colin loved so much. A memorial bench to them both will eventually be placed in the Garden. In addition to her immediate family and Compton in-laws, her O’Neill famil was represented by her brother Michael (who gave the address) and Brian, and sister June and their families.

RESEARCH NOTES
- interested in family history, sent the following information in response to variances with Catherine’s info:
1. Correct, it is definitely Eliza (not Elizabeth) Vear and Elizabeth Dunning was Mary Batchelor's sister and they lived next door.
Selina Compton, 7 daughter of Thomas and Mary should read Lily. There never was a Selina so must have been an error on the part of the census recorder and it fits in with Lily Compton's age etc. There were a further 3 sons, Maurice (my husband's father), Hubert and the youngest Victor.

2. John Compton (Miller of Barford St. Martin, Wilts.) definately married a Mary Compton (maiden name) of Chittern, probably a distant cousin but have not yet ascertained this. The mention of Mary Meade is partly my fault as I found her in Tilshead with dates that seemed to fit but on further investigation realised she was not John's wife so Catherine has not updated her records it would appear. John died in 1885 in Barford St. Martin but did not leave a will. I believe Mary's parents could be a George and Elizabeth as these names were given to children of John and Mary who seem to have 'religiously' given their children close family names and I have seen these names mentioned in Chittern but need to see the Parish reigisters.

3. I have a copy of the marriage document for James and Mary and it is definately Mary Butt. Chisenbury is quite near Enford in Wiltshire.

Sometimes it is Hannah and others just Anna and she was the wife of James jnr. who died in 1803 but I am not sure when he was born or where as did n ot find him in Netheravon or Tilshead but he married Anna/Hannah Barrett in 1788. Anna/Hannah left a will stating that James had a 'natural born' daughter, Anna Bartlett to whom she left some money but I have not been able to find out anything about her as yet. I thought that 'natural born' was in wedlock and 'base born' was out of wedlock but I could be wrong.
Edmund's parents James and Mary Butt were married in 1764 so James Jnr. (if born in 1746) could hardly be their son but as James Snr. was 41 at this time, it is possible that he had been married before but to date have not found any record. The various wills do mention the names James Jr. and Edmund as though they are related. James Snr. appears to have had land at Tilshead but was left land at Netheravon by his brother Richard so it would appear that he moved to Netheravon and left the rest of the family Tilshead.
They had the following children:
i.
Julie COMPTON (ca1960-)
ii.
Richard COMPTON (ca1965-)
1052. Alan COMPTON (Maurice F11, Thomas10, George Compton9, John8, Edmund7, James6, Thomas5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1) . Born in 1939 in Eastliegh, Hants, England. Alan died in England in Aug 2014; he was 75.

- 2012 (from sister-in-law Pat Compton): “Alan, now retired, is becoming more interested in Comptons and hopes to go back further.” “He does live closer [to Salisbury] in Banbury [Oxfordshire, north of Oxford]”...
- 2012: Living in Banbury, England

- We met Alan in England May 29, 2012. (We were going to meet his sister-in-law who was interested in Genealogy, but she was very illl. Alan is now retired and divorced quite some time ago.) We met up with him outside the cathedral in Salisbury. After watching some morris-type dancing and then a a brief ceremony inside the cathedral, Alan drove us to the nearby village of Great Wishford to attend a special luncheon and watch a quaint parade in honour of their historic Oak Apple Day festival. We stopped at a pub on the way back to our B&B in Salisbury.
